A Journey I Never Expected

They say time flies when you’re having fun and as I look back on my first year at

Rosemary & Time,

I can say with certainty that they’re absolutely right. It’s been a whirlwind of laughter, learning and some of the most fulfilling moments I’ve ever experienced. But to truly appreciate how far I’ve come, we need to rewind the clock a little and revisit how myself and Donna first crossed paths.

How It All Began

The story starts in 2018 at Grimsargh Farmers Market. Back then, I was outside, often getting cold, selling dog food and dog treats while Donna was inside, nice and warm, with her jars of seeds and an invitation to scatter beauty in your garden and attract the bees. You could say we connected right there and then through our shared purpose, I fed the dogs and Donna fed the bees.

We’d chat briefly each month, a casual exchange of smiles and stories. Donna would often bring along her lovely dog Alfie, who quickly became a regular recipient of our sausage treats. Our friendship grew slowly, almost like a seed taking root in a garden. It wasn’t until years later, in 2023, that it truly blossomed into something life-changing.

A New Beginning

Fast forward to last year. My husband and I were in the process of selling our dog food business when Donna casually mentioned, “You could come work with me one day, do my social media.” At the time, I just laughed and didn’t think much of it. I took some time off to figure out what I wanted to do next but soon found myself feeling quite lost.

Then, in November, Donna reached out again. “Are you ready to find something else now?” she asked. I had no idea what direction to take but took up her invitation to coffee and cake at Barton Grange, cake has become quite a big part of life these days!  From this I was then invited to a Friday Friends group at Rosemary & Time in Grimsargh Village Hall where we’d first met. Walking in for the first time, I was filled with uncertainty. I’d never worked with the elderly, never worked with anyone with dementia and I didn’t know what to expect at all and, if I’m being honest, did feel a little out of my depth.

I voiced my concerns to Donna, admitting, “I don’t really know what to do or how to talk to these people.” Her advice was simple but profound, “Just be yourself!”

Finding My Place

From that moment on, I’ve been exactly that - myself. And to my surprise, it’s been more than enough. Over the past year, I’ve found so much joy in the connections I’ve made and the moments of light and laughter I’ve shared with our members.

There’s a special kind of magic in seeing the transformation that happens during our sessions. People might arrive feeling a little lost, unsure of what to expect, but by the time they leave, their faces light up with joy and the room feels warmer, brighter and filled with a sense of belonging.

Working with the Rosemary & Time community has been like stepping into the dream job I didn’t even know I was looking for. It’s taught me so much about patience, compassion and the power of human connection.

Gratitude

To everyone I’ve met along the way - thank you. Thank you for your friendship, your laughter and the memories we’ve created together. And to Donna, thank you for seeing something in me that I didn’t see in myself.

This past year has shown me that life has a funny way of leading you exactly where you’re meant to be. I can’t imagine doing anything else, and I’m so excited for all the moments still to come.

Here’s to the journey ahead and to everyone who’s been part of this incredible year. Thank you for making it so special.
